Entertain Outdoors with Garden Design’s Summer Issue

Winter Park, Fla.Garden Design, the premier stylebook for exterior design and outdoor living, has released its June/July issue, Summer's Sweet Escape, full of ideas for your next garden party. Also, be on the lookout for two new columns rich with tips on outdoor décor (Garden Gourmet and Swatch Watch) when this issue hits newsstands June 17.

"We bought our first house two months before our son was born, and the little 1949 bungalow was so small, it didn't have a dining room or even a true eat-in kitchen. This brought new importance to outdoor dining and entertaining," says Editor Sarah Kinbar. "In the spirit of delicious, memory-making fun, Garden Design brings you this cover-to-cover entertaining issue."

Join chef Daniel Boulud and floral designer Olivier Giugni in "Garden Social" as they combine their passions for food and beauty to collaborate on a four-star cocktail party in a surprisingly un-urban Manhattan garden. This peaceful green oasis in an impossibly hectic city serves as a haven for Olivier and as a place for private get-togethers, special events and dinner soirees for friends or clients.

In "Fun Factor," an eco-friendly garden becomes the heart and soul of architect David Hertz's Venice, California, family compound. Inspired by a trip to Bali, Hertz was prompted to come home and fully erase the boundary between interior and exterior so his family could relax and entertain under the sky virtually year-round. Perfect for entertaining are the built-in seating area around a fire pit, a dining patio and 40-foot-long pool warmed by the dark pool bottom and rooftop solar panels.

Garden Design's summer issue also features the Asian-style retreat at the Hollywood home of pop singer Ashlee Simpson. While she's on stage, it's all passion. When she's at home, it's all rest and relaxation. Los Angeles garden designer Jon Goldstein transformed Ashlee's drab garden into an outdoor Zen den, which "opens its arms and gives me a hug the moment I walk through the gate," says Simpson.
